The 2024 GMC Hummer EV will be finally available with bi-directional charging, commonly known as V2L or vehicle-2-load. This will be possible thanks to the new, onboard AC charger that both the pickup and SUV versions of Hummer EV are getting later this year.
The difference between the previous and the new AC charger is quite significant. The old unit was an 11.5 kW AC charger without the V2L option. The new unit comes with 19.2 kW of power and it can deliver as much as 6 kW of electricity to an external device.
That is enough to power a house with all of its equipment - fridge, aircon, cooker, TV, washing machine - the lot. That’s enough to charge another electric car, although that will take a while. The reason why V2L makes so much sense on the GMC Hummer EV is the car’s battery - the biggest battery on the market in a passenger car - a whopping 212 kWh of capacity.
With the V2L, the Hummer EV can provide up to 6 kW for charging another vehicle while the domestic appliances are limited to 3 kW. That means - in theory - at full load, the Hummer can power the entire house for 60 hours. Taking an average US house energy use of 886 kWh per month though, Hummer EV has enough juice to power the house for a week.
The GMC Hummer EV is basically a one giant generator on wheels. At $100,000 it’s probably one of the most expensive generators out there but then again - you can’t drive a generator, can you?
Having an electric car is one thing, but having an electric car that can act as a back-up power is completely another thing. Being able to provide electricity to other vehicles, act as an emergency power supply or simply enjoy camping with all the lights on for a few days.
The new 19.2 kW AC charger will be standard on SUV Edition 1, 3X and 2X trims. The pickup GMC Hummer EV will have it on 3X and 2X versions.
Gsm need math classes asap. Big fridge consume 500w, big ac TOF is 3000w, cooker can consume 2000w, washing machine 2000w.
