Nio, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is updating its ES6 model, moving it from NT 1.0 to the newer NT 2.0 platform. Spy photos of the updated SUV were shared on Chinese social media last week, and additional images have since been released showing more details of the redesign.
The updated ES6 is seen with the standard LiDAR system that comes with the NT 2.0 platform, mounted on top of the vehicle.
According to an auto blogger who took the pictures in Hefei, the main modification made to the new ES6 in comparison to the current model is the relocation of the charging port to the back of the vehicle. Other SUVs on the NT 2.0 platform including the new ES8, EC7, and EL7 still have it at the front though, so it's not a requirement of the platform itself.
Nio is in process of migrating its entire fleet to its new platform - ES8, EC7, EL7, ET7, and ET5 are already there, while the ES8, ES6, and EC6 will soon make the jump, which will bring a more advanced cockpit and enhanced assisted driving capabilities.
At the Nio Day 2022 event held on December 24, the EC7 and the new ES8 were both introduced, with deliveries set to begin in May and June 2023, respectively. Nio's founder, chairman, and CEO, William Li, stated in a conference call held on November 10 that the company will introduce five new models in the first half of 2023, with a total of eight models available by June.
The ES6 has been Nio's top-selling SUV for a long time, with 32,877 units delivered from January to August 2022, making up 46% of the company's total deliveries during that period. So hopefully the company won't take long to update its golden goose.
