kiya, 28 Nov 2022if you regularly service your car, and maintain it when it should/need, they will last about 3... moreIt does not really work when your car has an alternator, battery (hybrid/EV), turbo, DPF and many other parts that usually break much more quickly.
After more than 10-15 years, you usually get to a point of repairs costing a considerable amount of money.
Not to mention rust ... that was a great point.
kiya, 28 Nov 2022if you regularly service your car, and maintain it when it should/need, they will last about 3... moreTheoretically,it could last indefinitely. But people usually get rid of the car when it is cheaper to add couple of bucks more for newer one rather than to invest money in old one.
If car doesn't have rust.and is not involved in some serious crash thst bended frame, everything can be replaced.
if you regularly service your car, and maintain it when it should/need, they will last about 30 years.
Cars last 6-8 years? The average age of European cars is about 9 years and rising, in the USA it is 12 and also rising. That doesn't mean cars last 9 or 12 years at all.
Quality is reducing? Nonsense. What is happening is that the pace of adding electronic functions is so rapid, that there are more electronic faults developing with time.
BMW has been accused of developing almost unserviceable engines of excessive complexity, as has Audi, but most cars do not have these big and expensive engines.
Cars tend to be scrapped because they rust or they lack features people want. Audi made an aluminium car back in the early 2000s and a number are still on the road. But with technological progress that necessitates change to shapes, the lifetime car is a bit of a fantasy.
Unless you like restoring Trabants or 2CVs.
If it wasn't for crash test safety and safety in general like matrix headlights,i would drive 20yo cars.
Manufacturers complained that it is too early to switch to EV,but now they all welcomed the idea and plan to switch sonner then they thought.
It just goes to show that we could have nice EV cars long time ago,but that wasn't in car manufacturers interest. They were more interested in milking old technology and not investing. And EV cars don't have any con when comparing to ICE except battery and that's due to not investing in battery technology for decades.
EV cars have more space, better weight distribution, better performance, less parts, less complex, more reliable, less maintenance, safer, alot of power for cheap, all wheel drive is better and more affordable, don't polute,quieter,etc,etc...no contest
