This article have a false assumption that all the petrol or diesel energy is converted to electric. The efficiency of an ICE engine is around 30-35% ,where as efficiency of electric motor is greater than 90% i.e. more than 90% of energy is used to propel the car. So the 400kwh should be slashed to 120 kwh for an equivalent comparison.

I doubt an efficient 8 speed gearbox would weigh as much as the generator/wiring/electronics/battery does and so it all seems a bit pointless as Nissan seem to have created a car that pretends to be better for the environment, whilst actually being worse ?

ive just ordered a nissan Qashqai Epower Highbred which the petrol engine only charges the battery : im given up my Nissan X= TRAIL DCI 1,6 Diesel car : i just hope i don't regret it : the only complaint that i have found is the poor Quality of the paint it will scratch from throm the slightest touch ,very poor lacquer top coat : & the interior seat cloth material is very poor Quality : my car is 5 years old & i have only 25,000 miles : this is my second one ive had great driving cars : looking for owners reviews on the new Qashqai Epower Hybrid:

I don't understand how can a car be electric and yet it uses fuel isn't it supposed to be running on battery only?
we can discuss about wether ev's or ice's have better range and efficiency. but fact is that petrol is a ready-to-use energy supplier and has a high concentration of energy. to produce electricity and store electricity in batteries a massive amount of materials is needed. concerning environmental issues the electrification of our world structure needs colossal amounts of rare earths. our planet can't take it.

40litre tank on a big family car is ridiculous. 10 years ago 65litres were the norm.

Well, on fast 270kWh charger, some 77-80kWh battery driven car charge 10-80% for about 15-18min and that give about 480km of range. If we wish to do 550km or 100% charge it will go to 25-30min
If we take the same 1.5 diesel Peugeot from the above that make 1000km of range we get to refuel it from 2% to 100% "charge" , will cost about 4-5min time.. So how that is ... slow!?
1 Litre of diesel contain about 10kWh of energy, but diesel cars can use efficiently about 35% of it. So, 55L tank will contain 55L * 10kW(per LItre) > 550kWh * 35% > 193kWh.
1 Litre of fuel weight 0.82kg, so 55L tank will weight 55*0.82 > 45kg
In other words we get : 193kWh usable in 45kg. The other side - 78kWh of battery weight about 500kg..
Extra 20L canister with fuel can be considered as "range extender" up to 40% in our case. Or to to refill if we forget to "charge" the tank.
We can not bring extra 150kg battery with us or to carry electricity in "canister"...
Overnight charging is completely adequate for everyday driving. Even using a standard 120v outlet (the US standard) 50 miles or more will be added overnight. That's more than many of us drive daily. On a 240v outlet (US standard for things like clothes dryers) 120 miles or more will be added overnight.
The energy is added when demand and electric rates are often lowest. Most EVs allow you to schedule charging to take complete advantage of lower rates.
It is really nice to get up every morning and have a "full tank" without ever having to stop at a gas (petrol) station.

ArenaEV Admin, 12 Apr 2022Well, the petrol/diesel numbers will stay the same, that's for sure :)And since Battery have done nothing but improving over time, the actual version are far better than the previous one that would have at least a 8 year warranty. Some people have their changed under warranty (Over some Tesla S, which is now warranted for 8 or 10 year and 200-250k km at least, cost around 10-15k without any warranty, but consider this one time fee without any fee yearly for the oil and such ar the dealership and you have another round of warranty)
