The fact that it's absolutely beautiful means that it will be desired outside of China too.

In case of Xiaomi government will also make a big support.
So its less likely from Xiaomi to withdrawn from EV cars than Apple with their project titan.

You're thinking about Teslas that run themselves into people and walls if they stop getting software updates. I haven't heard of a Chinese EV that does that.

It's more a business decision to go for the mid to high end market as it's more profitable and it would be hard to compete on price with more established car brands like BYD who have economies of scale

Will these cars be supported in 10 years? What if Xiaomi doesn't sell many and discontinues selling cars in 5 years? Will the car function? I think the flood of EV's in China is a huge gamble for those owners.
There's a reason why people trust established car companies, if they want to keep their vehicles for a decade or longer. These are cars, not smartphones. A Xiaomi car could end up being expensive e-waste in a few years if it doesn't work out, which of course goes against what EVs are all about in regards to emissions.
Some point these cars will end up in car scrapyard sold or in a landfill with engine torn apart in China in 50 years time.
Creating from scratch in such small ammount of time is marvelous feat.
Compared to that Apple project Titan is in developement for 10+ years far from unveiling and will probably have a plenty of cons. Considering the fact Apple never unveiled single device perfect without any kind of issues.
While Xiaomi is bold of their own products always trying to charm its customers with best possible gadget for a charming price.
There is something called technology in advanced countries, yeah developing countries have AI(by artists, painters etc) like west ppl. Poor countries don’t have any, only stupid designers.
Car business is not the industry where Xiaomi can be cheap because that could compromise safety. Phones, on the other hand, is a part where they can cheap out on things.
