The USA is so screwing over its lower income earners with the 100% tariff on Chinese vehicles. Here in Oz, MG has just dropped the price of the base model MG4 hatch (51kWh LFP/125kW) to AU$30,990 drive away, which is around US$21k at current exchange rates. Think about that, a brand new electric car with a 10 year/250,000km (155,000 mile) warranty for US$21k.
Anonymous, 15 Sep 2024I don't want to start a geopolitical debate here, so I will write just this as a reaction... moreafghanistan is a victory for the americans in the sense that nothing was really done for the afghan people.
only thing that was done was american taxpayer money being funneled to the their military/contractors and the corrupt puppet govt that played to the media.. 'ooo look we're a democracy now'
like i said americans only really care about themselves because its that sensible.
you have euros/germans freaking out about trump and yet most americans don't even know who scholz is.
the usa is main character syndrome and their discourse on foreign policy spills out worldwide causing damage.
it's bad when even pope francis of the catholic church, with all its own problems, says ' look, uh, whos the lesser evil - trump or harris, i don't know.'

In Afghanistan they certainly didn't come up on top and It was a big defeat in the end for them.
End of OT from me.
Back to the article. US can use tariffs If they want, but China will do the same and in the end the customer won't get anything from this trade war, just higher prices.
Anonymous, 15 Sep 2024So you meant this, ok.yes, americans in modern times have always come up on top even when it seems like a defeat.
following american policy will lead nonamericans to ruin, eventually.
losing a couple thousand soldiers in the middle east means nothing
when it causes some much more chaos/havok worldwide.
so it's actually a net positive for americans.

there are two males fighting over a female.
both males end up in the hospital.
the female ends up going home and marrying a male who was watching and cheering them both on.
who is good or bad here and more importantly...
who is the winner.
now apply this to tariffs/conflicts/etc..
I find It ridiculous that US is talking about unfair chinese support when Tesla without similar support in US would have gone bankrupt a long time ago.

Sorry, but what exactly should they emulate?
american tariffs are nothing new and to be expected from a nation that wants to remain at the top.
what is troubling is peripheral nations that have neither demographics, resources, or capital to emulate the americans.
this is evident in the ongoing conflict in ukraine.
whether russia good or bad, does not matter. russia is there and will be there.
no one in ohio, usa really cares about ukraine. they are having bbqs on this beautiful day.
