There the quality is pretty consistent, they also use camera systems to find defects etc.
I don't know how It looks in the assembly hall, was never there.
I saw a Xiaomi video about Its car factory and It looks basically the same as an VW one, the same robots are used there(Kuka, Fanuc, ABB) and similar process technologies.
It looks ok from my perspective.

In Skoda one Octavia was made in 47s or so.
But this depends on how the assembly lines are projected. If they want to make It faster, the line needs to have more robots per station and be longer, to have more stations. This way you reduce the time needed to finish It.

BTW, those are not made by Xiaomi but by companies like Foxconn.
This car is also made by BAIC group, not by Xiaomi themselves.
BTW, Wikipedia had a mention that the factory can output a car every 76s, so until now they were not working at full capacity.
In theory you can make 30*24*3600/76 = 34105 cars.
So yeah, now 24,000 car are making sense.
But It's not because they made additional assembly lines or such, at least not in bodywork construction, where robots put the car parts together. I saw a video of Xiaomi(BAIC) factory and It's basically the same as in Europe.
I can imagine that at the finish or assembly or whatever It's called where they put wheels, seats, window etc. they could have parallel lines.
So my guess is that here they were not working at full capacity because they had not enough workers.
Anonymous, 06 Nov 2024Ramping of production is very aggressive, so I have to wonder about quality of manufacturing. ... moreThis is Xiaomi. One of the biggest smartphone and electronic device manufacturer in the world. They have vast experience in releasing new models and products on a regular basis. Being able to deliver an ev like the SU7 on their first attempt, within a time frame of just 3 years, should tell you what they are capable of. Mind you, they have no prior experience in auto mfg.

I am working in automotive industry and at the plant I am currently or the previous ones, they don't have 10 parallel assembly lines for the main line(assembly of the whole car), they have a single one for a single model, but If they are very similar then another model is also made on that assembly line. Even for doors, hood or roof you don't have more assembly stations.
For example, an assembly station where I am needs 18 robots for one model(3x gluing, 1x cleaning, 4x clinching, 3x folding, the rest for moving the part). If you think you can do everything with only 2 robots then good luck.
Even if you somehow manage to make a working layout with only 2 robots, you would still need a very long 7th axis on which the robots are moving or 2 depending on the layout, a lot of docking for different technologies. So such an assembly station wouldn't be much smaller than the current one.
If you need 1 or 2 workers there, you would need more now. And then of course the cost of making 10 such stations would be many times more expensive than a single one.

One car may take 1000s when there are 10 parallel assembly lines in a building, but that comes to an average of 100s. I once had talk to a Chinese girl amd she said 11 number is lucky in China like working 11 hours shifts. So, I wonder the work culture.
Ramping of production is very aggressive, so I have to wonder about quality of manufacturing.
I wouldn't be surprised If quality control is more lax.
In a car factory you already have multiple shifts, cars are produced 24h per day not including breaks, shift change, etc. There is no production during weekend unless they are behind schedule at least in VW.
I don't think It's any different with Xiaomi.
Xiaomi at best is producing also during weekend, so that's 140% of capacity or 17,500.
How they make additional 6500 cars is beyond me.
The only explanation I can think of is that they reduced the time needed for a single car to be made.
For example, until now It took 130s to make a single car but now It will be only 100s.
