Renault's sporty sub-brand Alpine has released the A290 - a Renault 5 E-Tech-based EV. The A290 comes in four main variants - A290 GT as an entry-level configuration, A290 GT Premium, A290 GT Performance and A290 GTS.
The hot hatch was announced in June this year and is now reaching the streets with a starting price of €38,700 for the base A290 GT trim. This one gives you 130 kW motor with 300 Nm torque and 52 kWh battery pack good for 380 km, according to WLTP.
And despite being a base model, the A290 GT gives you a Formula 1-like button on the steering wheel when you need to do a quick overtake, hence the "OV" name of the switch. The GT also gets Michelin Sport EV tires paired with 19-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather steering wheel, heated front seats, tinted windows, automatic AC and ambient lights.
The GT Premium has the same exact powertrain and battery pack but adds a two-tone paint job with a black roof, matt blue roof line and Brembo brake calipers in Alpine Blue color. This configuration asks €41,700.
The GT Performance is equipped with a more powerful 160 kW motor, but with the same torque and is powered by the same 52 kWh battery as the other two variants. It also brings red Brembo brake calipers, along with Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. The asking price is €41,900.
Finally, the GTS combines the more powerful GT Performance motor and the GT Premium equipment for €44,700.
Alpine is launching a limited A290 Premiere Edition as well for €46,200, which in turn is available in four variants - Black Pearl bodywork called Premiere Edition, Pearlescent White two-tone paint job for the Premiere Edition Beta, Bleue Premiere Edition and Grise Premiere Edition. The company is making only 1,995 of these - a symbolic number referencing the year in which Alpine was founded.
The Alpine A290 is available in Germany and France and the vehicle is eligible for a €4,000 rebate in France.
Well, good luck trying to get GR Yaris ... it's pretty much sold out everywhere and the waiting queue is immense. GR Yaris is a beast and almost every car enthusiast wants one :-D I want one, in automatic, but I want one as well.
alpine A290 has only 170-220hp so, there is no enormous acceleration either.it probably has a top speed of 160-180kmh. 260hp yaris GR will eat both variants in breakfast with even a lower price tag.
