Vauxhall Frontera is the first with price parity between electric and hybrid models

Vauxhall has announced that its new Frontera will be the first car in the UK to offer list price parity between its electric and petrol hybrid models. This means that both versions of the Frontera will start at the same price, eliminating the typical price premium associated with electric cars.

Currently, the average price difference between electric and petrol cars across the market is a hefty 31%. However, Vauxhall is bucking this trend by offering both the Frontera Electric and Frontera Hybrid at an identical starting price of $30,993. Vauxhall's Managing Director, James Taylor, emphasized that the launch of the New Frontera at such a competitive price is a significant step towards making electric mobility a reality for everyone in the UK.

The Frontera itself boasts a rugged and modern design, reflecting Vauxhall's "Bold and Pure" design philosophy. It features the brand's signature Vizor front end, prominent wheel arches, and a distinctive C-pillar design. Measuring 172.4 inches in length, it slots right between the Mokka and the all-new Grandland in Vauxhall's SUV lineup. Despite its compact size, the Frontera offers more trunk space with the rear seats down than the larger Astra Sports Tourer Electric.

The interior features a redesigned steering wheel and dual 10-inch screens. Satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging are all included as standard.

Buyers can choose between two trim levels: Design and GS. Design models come with 16-inch wheels, automatic headlights, and wipers, and a suite of driver assistance features. GS models add 17-inch alloy wheels, a black roof, and Intelli-Seat front seats.

The electric version features a 113hp electric motor and a 44 kWh battery, providing a range of 186 miles. A 'Long Range' version with up to 248 miles of range will be available next year, but the pricing of that one is yet to be confirmed.

Vauxhall is also making the switch to electric easier with its "Plug & Go" offer. This includes a free Octopus Energy Ohme Pro wallbox and installation or a year's worth of free charging at Tesco stores. Alternatively, customers can opt for a $890 credit with Octopus Electroverse for public charging.
