Gone are the days when the thrill of the open road could only be experienced with a roaring combustion engine. Pininfarina, the brand synonymous with luxury and elegant design, introduces us to the world of wind-in-your-hair electric wonder with its latest creation, the B95.
A tip of the hat to their 95th anniversary, the B95 celebrates Pininfarina's dedication to blending the past with a futuristic twist. The name Barchetta, meaning 'little boat', is a nod to old-world charm, while the car itself accelerates into the future.
For starters, let's get the numbers out of the way. 1,874 horsepower, a 0-60 mph in under two seconds, and a ceiling speed of just over 186 mph. Yeah, it's fast. But if you think that's the crown jewel, think again. This beauty is housing a robust 120 kWh battery that charges from 20% to 80% in about 25 minutes thanks to the 270 kW fast-charging support. Although it's modeled along the lines of its sibling, the record-breaking Battista, don't mistake them for twins.
The design is a spectacle in itself. Imagine a car that looks gold under the sun but turns bronze at night. The two-tone exterior seamlessly blends with its interior, giving you a sense of driving inside a piece of art. The sustainable tan leather is a classy touch, adding an old-school vibe. Add to it the headrests boasting a Pied de Poule Houndstooth design and it doesn’t get more posh than that.
While all that sounds fantastic, the B95 comes with its quirks. No windshield for one. Instead, aero screens borrowed from vintage fighter jets try to keep the wind from wrecking your hairdo. Not convinced? There's a custom helmet on offer, color-coordinated with the car. Do you remember what it’s like sticking your hand out of a car on a highway? Now, multiply that by 3 and you just begin to get the idea of what it feels like driving the B95 at full pelt. Impossible - the wind would try ripping off that fancy helmet off your head, probably making a mess out of your face on its way. Apparently, it’s a small price to pay for such an exquisite vehicle.
Talking about prices, if you're thinking about snagging one for yourself, remember - exclusivity is the name of the game. Only 10 units will ever grace the roads, and owning one is akin to having a personalized masterpiece. Starting at a mere $4.8 million, it's a steal apparently.
All sarcasm aside though, let's step back for a moment. The B95 isn't just a vehicle; it's an emblem of what's possible when tradition meets innovation. Dave Amantea, the Chief Design Officer at Automobili Pininfarina, puts it best: "We're allowing customers to drive a dream with the B95."
And the thing: while it's tempting to be dazzled by the gold and bronze shimmer or the raw power of 1,874 horses under the hood, we must remember it's not just about speed or luxury. It's about reimagining the future, the Pininfarina way. For the automotive aficionados, this is an opportunity to own history. For the casual observer, it's a peek into what the roads of tomorrow might look like.
looks so cool. but, renault tried removing windshield in spider years ago and it didn't go well. probably, the driver has to clean too many dead insects after each drive :)
