Nio officially launched its cheapest sub-brand, Firefly, and the eponymous Firefly debut model, in December. This brand slots in below Onvo in the ever-expanding Nio portfolio, with Nio itself being the most expensive, premium brand.
The Firefly EV has now completed winter testing in China ahead of its release, and the brand has published the video you can see below, showcasing the harsh conditions to which the car was exposed.
The testing took place in Heihe, Heilongjiang province. This is one of the coldest places in China, and temperatures during the testing reached -22°F. All the while the Firefly completed charging and electric system performance tests. It also shows us some drift moves with ESC off.
The Firefly has a 50-50 weight distribution and rear wheel drive. It was engineered to adhere to European and Chinese five-star safety standards. Its body length is around 157 inches. The European-spec car shown in the video has 140 miles WLTP range with a 75% charge. So it should go up to 205 miles on a full charge.
The Firefly EV has a stunning 185 inches turning radius, a 3.25 ft³ frunk, and it starts at CNY 148,800 ($20,300). It will be offered in Europe starting in a few months.
