The new Toyota C-HR+ is here, but despite the name this is neither ICE nor hybrid vehicle, it's a fully electric car. Toyota strongly emphasizes the fact that this is a new product since it decided to drop the "beyond Zero" or "bZ" branding. The company is trying to make its product naming scheme less confusing, but we aren't fully convinced the C-HR+ is a step in the right direction.
Design-wise, the car is very similar to the standard C-HR, but it's considerably bigger and with a longer wheelbase. The extra space enabled 416 L of trunk volume and more room for the passengers.
The new C-HR+ is based on the e-TNGA platform, so it has more in common with the bZ4X than the standard C-HR. It comes in two drivetrains - rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. The RWD option with a single motor has a maximum output of 165 hp with the smaller 57.7 kWh battery, while the 77 kWh pack has a 221 hp motor. We still don't have exact numbers for all versions, but Toyota says you can get up to 373 miles on a single charge.
The dual-motor AWD configuration is paired with the bigger 77 kWh battery and outputs 338 hp. That's quite the performance for a mid-sized Toyota SUV.
Charging times are still a mystery, but the company says the model supports up to 150 kW when plugged into a DC charging station.
The interior gets a small refresh compared to the standard C-HR, and not everything is for the better. The dashboard gains a digital instrument cluster screen and a 14-inch central display, which comes as standard. Unfortunately, the physical dials for the climate control, for example, are now integrated into the software, so you will have to interact with the display for almost everything.
The gear selector is now smaller, and you have the option for a panoramic sunroof and a set of two wireless charging pads.
Toyota says it will bring the C-HR+ to certain European markets by the end of this year, while the rest of the markets on the continent will get the SUV in 2026.
