We just got the all-important EPA range of the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric. The car achived 261 miles on the US test with its 64.8 kWh battery. That's 3 miles better than the 2023 Kona Electric with its slightly smaller 64 kWh battery.
Another improvement is the charging speed. The 2024 Kona has a 10.8 kW onboard charger that helps it to a 10-100% charge in 6 hours and 5 minutes. In comparison, the 2023 Kona Electric had a 7.2 kW built-in charger and does the 10-100% in 9 hours of 15 minutes.
Moving to a stronger DC charger, the 64.8 kWh battery can get from 10% to 80% in just 43 minutes - 4 minutes faster than the previous model.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric has a new 160 kW (215 bhp) front-wheel drive electric motor with 188 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, according to the source, the 2024 model has 116 combined MPGe, or around 29 kWh per 100 miles, which is around 3% poorer than that of the 2023 car - 116 MPGe or 27 kWh per 100 miles.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric comes with a much-requested i-Pedal model for true one-pedal driving, a Smart Regenerative System that adjusts the regeneration based on real-time traffic, and reverse charging, aka Vehicle-to-Load V2L to the tune of 1.7 kW.
The car is expected to start shipping in the US right before the year's end.
