BYD's most premium brand, YangWang, has unexpectedly revealed some images of its next EV, the U7. This follows the U8 SUV and the U9 supercar, both initially announced about a year ago. Unlike those, however, the U7 is a sedan - the brand's first, in fact.
Chinese sources speculate that the brand revealed official images of the U7 since the model is soon to be certified for sale in China by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a process through which images of each certified car become public anyway - but those are much more utilitarian in nature.
Writing the words "premium sedan" instantly makes us think of Nio's recently unveiled ET9, but while that's targeted as an "executive sedan", the YangWang U7 is more sporty. It's expected to cost about CNY 1 million, which currently means around $139,000, but YangWang hasn't made the pricing official.
That's definitely a premium price tag for a premium vehicle, but BYD's sub-brand does promise it will have over 1,000 hp and thus "push the limits of sedan performance". As you can see, the front is highly reminiscent of the U9 supercar, and there's LiDAR on the roof.
Unfortunately, the brand hasn't outed any more details about the U7, other than the fact that it will be using the e4 technology platform, which will power all of YangWang's upcoming models. This will provide "precise control and high safety".
