Xiaomi's second EV, the YU7, is getting ever so close to its official debut. Recent spy photos reveal a cabin designed for tech enthusiasts and comfort-seekers alike. Xiaomi, known for its smart devices and its highly successful SU7 electric sedan, is bringing that expertise into this new electric SUV.
One of the new features is the absence of a traditional dashboard. Instead, drivers will rely on a Panoramic Head-Up Display (PHUD). This system projects essential driving information onto the windshield, keeping the driver's eyes on the road. The center console houses an infotainment screen, a bit smaller than the one found in the Xiaomi SU7 sedan. This screen runs on Xiaomi's HyperOS, offering seamless integration with other Xiaomi devices.
The YU7's steering wheel looks both stylish and functional. Wrapped in Alcantara and carbon fiber, it surely delivers a premium feel. The flat-bottom design adds a sporty touch. There are physical buttons for easy access to key functions. There's a bright red "Boost Mode" button for quick bursts of performance, and another button to activate the car's advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Inside, the YU7 is all about premium materials, and the car in the photos has dual-tone purple and cream leather upholstery. The driver's seat includes an electric legrest, enhancing comfort on long journeys. There are wireless charging pads and electronic door handles, adding to the high-tech experience. A discreet roof-mounted LiDAR sensor suggests the YU7 will offer advanced autonomous driving capabilities.
The interior might have taken center stage in the leaked photos, but photos of the exterior reveal a sleek design. The YU7 features hidden door handles, a panoramic sunroof, a transparent U-shaped taillight, and an active spoiler.
The YU7 is set to launch in June 2025, with an expected starting price of around RMB 250,000 yuan, or roughly $34,200, and is expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The SUV will likely use an 800V electrical architecture, enabling fast charging and a range of over 435 miles.
