IM Motors SAIC

IM Motors, also known as Intelligence in Motion Motors or Zhiji Motors, is a joint venture between SAIC, Alibaba and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. It was only established in 2020 and the L7 Snake Performance is its second model although, technically it is based on the “normal” version of the L7.

Visually striking, the L7 Snake Performance (what’s with the name?) features matt gray paint finish and a very unique light signature that is designed to resemble Epsilon. The technical details are nowhere to be found for now, although the company claims the car is equipped with a high-power drive system, high performance suspension and performance brakes.

So what can we expect from the Snake Performance version? Quite a lot actually, the “civilian” L7 is powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 570 HP (375 kW) and 725 Nm of torque. That’s already plenty although the L7 is over 5 meters long and with its 93 kWh battery it weighs 2,290 kg. It doesn’t seem to hamper its performance though and it deals with the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just over 3.8 seconds.

When the base vehicle for the performance model is a 570 HP electric sedan, we should expect serious numbers. What is even more interesting, is the fact that the L7 holds a Guinness World Record for “the longest drift on the wet surface.” It managed to beat Porsche Taycan and it drifted for 43.646 kilometers.

We’ll be watching this one closely, it doesn’t have much chance to get out of China but it still is going to be a serious weapon and you can bet your last pair of socks, the IM Motors will attempt more records in a course of marketing campaign. This is going to be a fun car to follow.
