In its most recent press release, Lucid announced its partnership with Aston Martin. The latter will start using various EV technologies to develop its own fully-electric cars under the Aston Martin brand. This isn't the first partnership for Aston Martin, as the company has relations with Rimac, Koeningsegg and Mercedes-Benz. However, this is the first partnership of this kind for Lucid. Aston Martin outlines that Lucid was selected after a competitive process.
The new player in town will provide Aston Martin with proprietary powertrain technologies, battery tech and the onboard "Wunderbox" charging unit. The set of hardware also includes the high-performance, dual-motor powetrain used in Lucid Air's most recent trim Dream Edition Performance.
Aston Martin is plagued with financial struggles that forced the company to discontinue its EV projects back in 2020 until it becomes financially stable again. It's also important to note that Mercedes-Benz has about 9.4% stake in the company and is currently providing the UK-based carmaker with electric and hybrid powertrains, so it's going to be interesting to see how the Aston Martin-Lucid-Mercedes-Benz dynamic goes.
