Mazda is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the new EZ-60 crossover. The first official pictures of this upcoming electric SUV have just been released, giving us a closer look at Mazda's latest electric addition.
Underneath its stylish body, the Mazda EZ-60 uses Changan's EPA1 modular platform. This platform is also used for cars like the Deepal L07, the Deepal S07, and the Mazda EZ-6 (marketed as Mazda 6e outside of China). Changan spent five years developing this platform, which can support different types of powertrains, including battery electric (BEV), range extender electric (EREV), and even hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV).
Mazda and Changan have been working together in China for a long time. They created a joint company back in 2012, and their factory in Nanjing currently builds several Mazda models, including the CX-30, CX-5, CX-50, Mazda 3, and now the EZ-6 sedan. Mazda plans to sell the EZ-60 around the world under the name Mazda CX-6e. The public will get its first in-person look at the EZ-60 at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23rd.
The design of the new electric SUV follows Mazda's "Kodo" design language, which is also seen on the EZ-6 sedan. The EZ-60 has a smooth shape, a Mazda logo that lights up, headlights that are split into two parts, and daytime running lights made of LEDs. Other design features include door handles that sit flush with the body, a roofline that slopes back, and cameras instead of traditional side mirrors. The back of the vehicle has the Mazda name written across it, just beneath the two long taillights.
Looking at the pictures, the EZ-60 seems to be about the same size as the Changan Deepal S07 crossover. The Deepal S07 is 187 inches long, 76 inches wide, and 64 inches tall, and it has a wheelbase of 114.2 inches.
The Mazda EZ-60 will likely also share its electric motor options with the Deepal S07. The electric version of the Deepal S07 has one electric motor powering the rear wheels, with two power levels: 160 kilowatts (about 215 horsepower) and 190 kilowatts (about 255 horsepower). It also has two battery options: a 68.8 kWh that offers a range of about 323 miles on a single charge, and a larger 80 kWh battery with a range of about 390 miles.
The price of the Mazda EZ-60 hasn't been announced yet. However, it's expected to cost more than the Deepal S07, which is priced between RMB 149,900 and RMB 197,900 (about $20,400 to $26,930). It's worth pointing out that the Mazda EZ-6 sedan isn't selling very well in China, with only 4,329 units sold between November 2024 and February 2025, and the EZ-60 crossover will face the same tough competition.
