Once facing financial headwinds, the Volkswagen Group appears to have navigated its way back into the fast lane, powered by a surge in demand for its electric cars. The latest delivery figures reveal a serious shift in the European automotive market, with VW right at the forefront of the electric revolution.
According to reports, Volkswagen's deliveries of fully electric cars in Europe doubled in the first three months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, jumping from 74,400 to over 150,000 vehicles. This is impressive growth, even more so when it comes amidst global economic uncertainties and the impact of tariffs. The entire VW Group also saw a healthy 29% increase in overall vehicle orders, pointing to a broader positive trend for the automotive giant.
Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, expressed confidence in the company's direction. "The Volkswagen Group has done its homework. Now we're shifting up a gear and getting into the fast lane," he stated. This renewed momentum is clearly reflected in the latest registration data from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). Between January and March 2025, a total of 112,968 new all-electric vehicles were registered in Germany. Volkswagen led the pack with 25,393 new EV registrations.
Following behind VW were other prominent automakers. BMW secured the second spot with 10,315 new EV registrations. Volkswagen Group subsidiaries Skoda, Audi, and Seat-Cupra duo registered 9,258, 8,634, and 8,063 new electric cars, respectively. Mercedes claimed the sixth position with 7,090 EVs sold. Interestingly, Tesla, which held the top spot in the same period last year and finished third overall in 2024, slipped to eighth place with only 4,935 vehicle registrations.
The data highlights Volkswagen's dominant position in the German electric car market. Astonishingly, nearly half – around 48% – of all newly registered electric cars in Germany during this period were from the Volkswagen Group. CEO Blume acknowledged this significant achievement, stating, "Clear electric market leader in Europe, the number of electric vehicles delivered in our home region doubled, 7 of the 10 best-selling all-electric models in Germany from the Volkswagen Group: Our unique product offensive has arrived on the market." Clearly, VW management is happy with the results.
Even with such positive sales figures, Volkswagen is sticking to financial prudence. The company is actively reducing its costs and promises its shareholders an "ongoing commitment to efficiency." Looking ahead, Blume also stressed the need for supportive government policies, stating, "It's high time for a new beginning for Germany, too. We are currently experiencing unprecedented economic and policy challenges globally. We now need a clear political impetus for Germany as an industrial location."
The comparison is misleading. VW was created under the Nazi regime, but the company has publicly acknowledged its past, issued apologies, and paid reparations. Elon Musk, by contrast, has been criticized for amplifying far-right rhetoric and was even...
It is very funny to see USA citizens not willing to buy Teslas becase they say it is a N@zi brand.. But willing to buy a vehicle from VW which was actually a brand used and promoted by Hitl3r itself.. haha Germany has the most N@zi brands of all (V...
