Nio was in the news recently thanks to the real life testing of an ET7's range, which saw Nio founder and CEO William Li drive the car for 649 miles on a single charge using the new 150 kWh semi-solid battery pack.
But Nio will be in the news even more later this week, for the company is set to unveil a new model on December 23 during its now-annual Nio Day. This will be called ET9 and it's going to challenge Maybach.
The information comes straight from Li himself. He revealed small tidbits about the upcoming car during that 649 miles trek in the ET7. Here's what he had to say (translated from Chinese):
On Nio Day, December 23, we're going to unveil an executive flagship sedan, the ET9. When it comes to executive flagships, you know there's Mercedes-Benz's Maybach, the S-Class, the BMW 7-series, and the Audi A8. And then there are some sporty ones like the Porsche Panamera [...] I think there's an opportunity for Chinese companies to get involved.
Clearly, this lays out exactly what the ET9's competitors are, at least in Li's view. So it looks like it will be aiming right at the highest echelons of the car world. We're only five days away from finding out more about it, so stay tuned.
