Solid-state batteries have been round the corner for a while at this point, but it appaears 2027 might finally be year when a bunch of automakers finally release their first vehicles with it. Nissan has seemingly chosen a very special vehicle to premiere the tech - its first all-electric GT-R.
Nissan's global vice president, Ivan Espinosa, revealed that solid-state batteries make perfect sense for electric sports cars, like the upcoming Nissan GT-R, as these batteries save plenty of space and weigh less than their lithium-ion counterparts, while delivering more power and energy storage.
The Hyper Force EV concept introduced by Nissan in October last year promises more than 1,300 hp output, which is north of 1 MW and a solid-state battery will help deliver it.
The future GT-R will be designed by Nissan's NISMO racing team for better aerodynamics and will use the company's e-4ORCE AWD tech for better handling and control when cornering.
The car isn't planned to be released anytime soon, though. If everything goes smoothly, the first GT-R EV will debut sometime in 2028 and hopefully, solid-state battery technology will be available for mass production by then.
