Polestar has announced its 2025 Polestar 2 model for the US market and it's not great news. The starting price for the single remaining trim level will be $64,800, a substantial jump from the 2024 starting price of $48,400. Partially this is explained by the new tariffs on EVs imported from China, where the Polestar 2 is manufactured. A bigger contributor is the axing of the cheaper versions.
Starting next year the company will offer only one trim level for the 2: the Long Range Dual Motor with the Performance Pack. The single motor version is gone and the Performance pack is no longer optional. Previously ticking both of those boxes would set the price at $63,000, so the increase isn't as huge as it first appears.
The Long Range Dual Motor Polestar 2 has a dual-motor setup, delivering 476 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds. With a 78 kWh battery pack, the Polestar 2 offers an EPA-estimated range of 270 miles.
Polestar's decision to drop all the cheaper versions for the 2025 model year is rather puzzling, but we guess the company is mostly looking to focus on its newer models, the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.
The Polestar 3 is a luxury electric crossover that recently entered production in China and the United States. The Polestar 4, on the other hand, is a performance coupe-crossover. It is set to launch later this year.
Ingenlath needs a serious intervention for bogus design review on ergo issues. Until the interior comfortably fits normal (taller) people in all seats and the visibility is expanded,- not even going back to look at Polestar products.
