Smart, once known for its compact city cars and, more recently, for electric crossovers, has just unveiled its all-new #5 crossover.
Smart is yet to reveal the output figures, but we know the #5 has a 100 kWh 800V battery pack that provides an impressive range of over 460 miles in the CLTC cycle. The 400kW charging support allows it to go from 10% to 80% charge in just 15 minutes.
While Smart hasn't officially confirmed the powertrain options, a listing from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveals there will be a rear-mounted motor with outputs of 335 hp (250 kW) and 358 hp (267 kW). There will also be dual-motor all-wheel drive systems that use a 221 hp (165 kW) front-mounted electric motor with either a 358 hp (267 kW) or 416 hp (310 kW) rear motor.
The Smart #5 features distinctive oblong headlights connected by a thin illuminated strip, while the Summit Edition adds a touch of ruggedness with a roof-mounted light bar and side steps. The side ladder might feel a little bit too much, but it helps with easier access to the roof carrier.
Inside, you get leather seats, oak wood trim, and zero-gravity front seats that recline up to 121 degrees create a truly indulgent atmosphere. The ambient lighting system with 256 colors and the 21-speaker Sennheiser audio system further enhance the premium experience.
Inside is also a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, two 13-inch displays and a 25.6-inch HUD. The infotainment features a lion avatar named Leo and a state-of-the-art AI voice assistant that can answer natural languange question.
Rear passengers are well taken care of, with heated seats, adjustable backrests, and an electric sunshield. The airplane-style LED reading lights with a "first-class" setting and a comfort mode that provides extra legroom ensure a pleasant journey for everyone on board.
The seats can be folded down to create a king-size, queen-size, or single-sleeping space. There are 34 storage compartments throughout the cabin, a frunk for additional storage, and a spacious cargo area that can hold up to 1,530 liters of luggage with the rear seats folded.
With its combination of luxury, technology, and practicality, the Smart #5 is ready to shake up the electric SUV market. It's a clear demonstration that Smart is no longer just a city car brand; it's a serious contender in the premium electric vehicle segment.
This car has a massive identity crisis. The face is a mix between a Kia, Hummer and and Porsche Taycan. The side profile from the doors to the butt is between a Toyota Rav4, Toyota Vanguard or Toyota Land Cruiser last gen. Wheels from a mix from Sony...
