Xiaomi Announcement

Xiaomi has finally unveiled the production version of its highly anticipated SU7 Ultra. This high-performance electric sedan is set to really challenge established players.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is a technological showcase designed to demonstrate the company's capabilities in the automotive sector. It stands directly against the likes of Zeekr 001 FR, Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Tesla Model S Plaid, and Lucid Air Sapphire.

The SU7 Ultra comes with three electric motors – two Xiaomi V8s and one Xiaomi V6 – generating a combined output of 1,526 horsepower. This enables a 0 to 62 mph time of just 1.98 seconds, putting it firmly in hypercar territory. The SU7 Ultra can reach a top speed of 217 mph and completes a quarter-mile sprint in 9.23 seconds. These are truly impressive stats.

Power comes from a 93.7 kWh Qilin 2.0 battery developed by CATL. This advanced battery features a dual-surface cooling system, a cell-to-body (CTB) structure for enhanced safety and rigidity, and an impressive 5.2C fast-charging capability. You can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes.

The SU7 Ultra builds upon the design of the standard SU7 sedan but adds several sporty touches. A large rear spoiler, wider body, and aggressive bumpers give it a distinctive and more aggressive look. These aerodynamic enhancements contribute to a significant 584 lb of extra downforce, keeping the car glued to the road at high speeds. The SU7 Ultra rides on 21-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero 5 tires.

Inside, the SU7 Ultra is a mix of luxury and sportiness. Alcantara leather covers the seats, door cards, and other interior elements, while carbon fiber graces the door steps, center tunnel, and rearview mirror for a touch of high-tech flair. Sporty seats with yellow seatbelts and an Alcantara-covered steering wheel complete the cockpit highlights.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is priced at RMB 814,900 in China, which converts to $114,200. This makes it significantly cheaper than many of its competitors even in the Chinese market. Volume production of the SU7 Ultra is set to start in March 2025, but buyers can already place pre-orders.

Goldman Sachs forecasted sales of around 4,000 units in 2025, which is a modest figure in the grand scheme of things, but not too bad for a hypercar. The initial response from buyers might have rendered those predictions baseless, with 3,680 orders placed within 10 minutes of the car's official presentation.

The story of the SU7 is quite an inspiring one. From an idea to a finished product in a short two years despite general consensus branding the company's ambitions as too bold. Against all odds, the company is on track to deliver 120,000 units of the SU7 this year, with 20,000 delivered in October alone. And now, the Ultra has taken on the Nurburgring and made the entire automotive world sit up and pay attention. It makes us excited to see what Xiaomi is going to do next.
