Rimac has announced it wrapped up winter testing of its Nevera and is getting ready to button up the final tests and start deliveries within a couple of months.
The winter testing took place in Sweden, in the Arctic Circle at the Pirelli Sottozero Center. Unfortunately not all went as planned - due to unusually warm weather, the testing had to be conducted at night, as during the day temperatures struggled to fall below zero. Not deterred by this, Rimac crew managed to test ESP, ABS and torque vectoring which is super important when you have 4 electric motors with nearly 2,000 hp trying to snap your neck or turn your intestines into mush, every time you dare to put your foot near the accelerator.
In addition to those very important tests, we can tell the crew had plenty of time to ensure the new Nevera is a perfect drift machine, it performs 360s as if it's a walk in the park, and it silently sneaks up on elk and reindeers like the apex predator it is. As if it knew these are the last days of freedom and it will spend its future on busy streets stuck in traffic carrying shouting humans from drive-thru to drive-thru. Enjoy your last days in the wild, Nevera.
Seriously though, Nevera is a pinnacle, there’s no other word for it. Once it reaches first customers it will be - together with Pininfarina Battista - the joint fastest production car ever. The figures on paper really don't do it justice, sure 1.85s 0 - 60mph sounds short but you need to put that in perspective, it takes Nevera under 4s to get to 100mph from a standstill - it actually did it in 3.61 seconds during testing at Famoso Raceway. It gets to 300kmh in 9.3s too. Sure it costs about $2.4m but it does a quarter mile in 8.58 second! If you want to know what it feels like, lay down flat and ask someone to put 130kg on top of you - that’s about 1.3G which is what you’ll experience if you ever get to floor Nevera's throttle.
Back to Earth - Nevera is the street incarnation of the C_Two concept that was revealed back in 2018, it has taken Rimac all this time to go through global homologation and crash tests, all of which has been completed and the car is ready for production. It shares the platform with Pininfarina Battista, it will be produced at the same facility and both will be made in a limited quantity of 150 units. The car is powered by 4 electric motors with combined power of 1,914hp (1,427kW) and Earth stopping 2,360Nm of torque and it has a top speed of 412kmh.
The chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque with bonded carbon fiber roof and rear subframe, crash structures are carbon fiber and aluminum. 6 piston front and rear brakes come with brake-by-wire and brake-blending as well as brake pedal feel simulator. Suspension is double wishbones all around with adjustable dampers and hydraulic lift complemented by anti-roll bars.
Things get a little complicated when it comes to gearboxes - since Nevera has 4 motors it has 4 gearboxes as well, 2 discrete single speed at the front and 2 single speed at the back that share one housing. Front motors are 299hp each and the rear ones are 653hp each. Battery pack is 120kWh 730V, liquid cooled and capable of fast charging at up to 500kW DC which should get it topped up to 80% in about 19 minutes.
