The wait is over and although we have seen plenty of official images of the Aion Hyper GT before, we get a little bit more details to share and anyone out there living in China can actually go and buy one - lucky souls.
Aion is yet another new electric company, only established in 2018 it actually went independent from its parent company GAC in 2020. GAC still remains in full control though, and Aion, until now, was tasked with manufacturing small, trendy and affordable electric cars for the younger generation. Then the company changed its direction and created the Hyper GT.
Aion HYper GT is the first car in the new premium lineup of models from Aion, the next one will be the Hyper SSR but for now we get to enjoy the electric sedan. The car was only revealed a few months ago and now it is ready for production with apparently plenty of customers already forming an orderly waiting line.
Hyper GT has one of the best drag coefficients in the industry, the Cd of 0.19 places the car ahead of Mercedes EQS. With the Lightyear now gone, the Hyper GT can claim the crown of the most aerodynamic electric car in the world with Lucid Air close behind it with Cd of 0.197.
The car has been designed with aero in mind, there are active aero panels in the front bumper, the real spoiler activates at speed of over 80 km/h (50 mph) and all that is done to achieve the least drag possible. Less drag means more range.
Hyper GT comes fitted with several HD cameras and three LiDAR sensors to offer Level 2 ADAS. The company actually refers to it as L2.5 because apparently thanks to its mmWave radars and ultrasonic radar, combined with the LiDAR and the cameras, the car offers more advanced autonomous driving than Level 2 but not as advanced as Level 3.
The key to Aion Hyper GTBuilt on Aion’s dedicated EV platform called AEP 3.0, the car comes with only one electric motor at launch. This motor packs serious punch though, 340 hp and 434 Nm is enough for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just under 5 seconds. The dual-motor 600 hp version will come later.
The interior looks plush and welcoming, bright colors everywhere and sumptuous materials remind us that this is a premium item. And the experience actually starts with the key that resembles good old Zippo but made out of crystal and titanium. Amazing attention to detail from Aion.
The only buttons you can find are two scroll wheels on the steering wheel and a gear selector on the stalk. Everything else is controlled via the central screen, and the driver has its own thin display placed almost at the foot of the windshield. There is a large, double wireless charging pad in the center console to accommodate even the largest smartphones out there. The passenger cabin is vast, the seats look comfortable and the sound system comes with speakers built into the headrests. The interior is finished with a full length panoramic roof.
There are only two things left for the company to reveal - the actual price and when it is coming to the nearest showroom. Aion will share those details during the Shanghai Auto Show in April but the car is expected to sell for RMB 300,000 which is just $43,000 making it a hugely desirable electric sedan.
