Denza is a BYD sub-brand positioned in the premium segment and one that's quick to expand its portfolio. The company was established as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, but last year BYD increased its shares in Denza to 90% as the German maker seemingly lost interest.
Today the second vehicle from the company is going on sale. The Denza N7 is an all-electric SUV, following the Denza D9 MPV from earlier this year. The price range of the N7 is between RMB 301,800 ($42,000) and RMB 379,800 ($53,000), depending on the configuration you choose. It aims to challenge Tesla's Model Y in the country, which roughly falls in the same price bracket.
The Denza N7 was supposed to launch almost a month ago, but the company said it's delaying the launch until mid-July without specifying a reason. Back in June, Denza published on Weibo that the N7 had received more than 20,000 pre-orders and that's before specs and pricing were announced. And interestingly enough, 55% of the users who ordered previously owned Mercedes, BMW or Audi while 35% of the orders came from current BYD drivers.
