Tata Motors just unveiled its latest electric vehicle designed for the Indian market - the Curvv EV. The first mass-market coupe SUV comes with a very aggressive price and a decent set of features.
The Curvv EV is built on Tata's Generation 2 EV architecture, featuring a 45 kWh battery pack in the standard variant and a larger 55 kWh battery pack in the long-range versions. The standard variant offers an ARAI-certified range of 312 miles, while the long-range variant pushes that to 364 miles. It supports relatively modest 70 kW DC fast charging, but that still lets it add 93 miles of range in 15 minutes.
The Curvv EV sports a distinctive coupe-like silhouette with a sloping roofline, setting it apart from traditional SUVs. Its front fascia features an LED DRL strip that extends across the entire front, along with lower-positioned headlights. While sharing some design cues with the Tata Nexon, the Curvv EV distinguishes itself with unique elements such as 18-inch alloy wheels and flush door handles.
The Curvv EV offers a rather spacious 17.7 ft³ trunk, a large infotainment touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Higher trims support Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as well.
The Curvv EV's base version will sell for Rs. 17.49 lakh ($20,800) and the top-specc'd long-range variant is priced at Rs. 21.99 lakh ($26,200). The company will start taking orders for the Curvv EV on August 12.
As India continues its transition towards electric mobility, the Curvv EV will have an important role to play in shaping the future of transportation in the country that has well over 326 million vehicles on its roads.
I know very little about India's charging infrastructure, but I assume this is only for large metropolitan areas as the range can't go long distance and I imagine rural charging is rare to find. Decent for the price though, especially if t...
Terrible charging speed of 1.2C. Most EVs in 2024 have 3C or 4C charging. Pure EVs should be made on 800V architecture.
