In a world gone electric, Tesla Cybertruck tries to be the rebellious kid on the block. Sporting a design edgy enough for a dystopian sci-fi flick, it's recently been seen playing dress-up sporting various types of camo. Now, in what seems like a playful jab at traditional gas guzzlers, the most recent leak shows a Cybertruck desperately trying to look like a Ford F-150 Lightning.
This prank by Tesla appears to be more than just a playful mockery of what Elon Musk calls "boring-looking" pickup trucks. It's also revealing Cybertruck's little secrets. Or lack thereof. The photos leaked from the shop opened up a debate about the vehicle's front trunk, or frunk, an expected feature in all Tesla models. As it turns out, the future-forward vehicle might not have it. Or if it does, it looks quite snug compared to its siblings.
I am…. Confused. But enjoy this shot. @elonmusk troll level 69420

Now, this might not seem like a big deal, but let's put it in perspective. Frunks are particularly valuable in electric pickup trucks since these vehicles have beds instead of trunks. It's a neat little bonus space for extra storage. Not having one would be a first for Tesla, and some fans might feel a tad disappointed seeing how this is a workhorse of a vehicle. But then again the Cybertruck does sport a closed bed, which should pacify those in desperate need of extra storage.
In the meantime, it seems there's a more pressing matter at hand for potential Cybertruck owners, and it isn't just about waiting for the frunk conundrum to be solved. It's about waiting.
That's an odd-looking F-150...That's right, Tesla's sleek electric pickup is evidently playing hard to get. Pre-bookings for the vehicle have now hit a whopping 1.9 million. Early estimates suggest that this translates into a five-year-long waiting game for prospective buyers. Elon Musk might have laughed off the overwhelming demand for the Cybertruck as being "so off the hook, you can't even see the hook," but patience can only stretch so far.
Of course, Tesla is doing its best to speed things up. Deliveries are supposed to start any moment now, with mass production kicking off next year. It's worth noting that those 1.9 million people only placed a $100 deposit, so odds are only a fraction will follow through. Even so, the Cybertruck has seen so many delays that it would take a bold person to bet on production going to maximum capacity instantly and staying there for many years to come.
In the face of stiff competition from the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV Pickup, how many potential buyers are willing to endure the lengthy wait remains to be seen.
The frunk - if there is one - will be much smaller than what competition has an offerOn the other hand, when GMC launched the Hummer EV, the orders flooded the unexpected executives who initially dismissed them as speculation. Unfortunately for the buyers, and in a big surprise for the company, the majority of those orders translated to purchases, and GM ended up struggling with production, with thousands of people still waiting for their cars. All in all, it's an interesting time for Tesla. As the Cybertruck continues to bask in the limelight (in disguise or not), fans and skeptics alike are waiting with bated breath. Will the Cybertruck live up to its hype and withstand the test of time?
